A Mural Wish, a division of Young@ArtCT.org, provides bedroom murals for children and young adults aged 6 to 14 years of age who are in need of encouragement, inspiration, and a little bit of make-believe. We partner recipients with artists and provide concepts, design, and full painting services. We serve both Hartford and Tolland counties. All proceeds from donations fund the mural costs and the programs that are run through Young@ArtCT.org
Who is Eligible?
A child who is currently facing or has faced extreme adversity, or has suffered a life-threatening or debilitating medical condition or illness, or who has suffered the loss of a loved one (either through death or other reason) and is age 6- 14 years old at the time of referral, is potentially eligible for a mural wish. Currently, they must reside in Hartford or Tolland County and would benefit from a mural that would make their bedroom a space that is inspiring, encouraging and a little bit magic.
How do you refer a child or young adult?
Fill out the application and be prepared to provide your name, email address, the name of the child/young adult and reason why a bedroom mural would benefit the recipient.
Who can refer a child/young adult?
Potential mural recipients their parents/legal guardians; family members, medical professionals with detailed knowledge of the potential mural recipients current situation can initiate the referral process.
How are recipients chosen?
All applications will be reviewed by a team of adult Young@ArtCT.org volunteers who will choose the recipient based on need and the impact a mural would have on their current life situation
HOW IT WORKS:
- A Mural Wish is a “division” of Young@ArtCT.org.
- We will secure donations/sponsorships to pay for the costs associated with the planning and execution of all murals (i.e., mileage to and from mural site for all artists, materials for planning and painting the murals). We estimate each mural will cost $1,500; any remaining proceeds will fund programs at Young@ArtCT.org
- Initially we will have one wave of recruitment with the intention of choosing two recipients. As we learn through the process, we look to grow the number of murals that are completed annually.
- We will recruit artists aged 15 – 25 to plan and paint all murals which keeps us on mission and partner them up with mentors that are local artists.
