The Open Mic Poetry Event was well attended last night and our featured poet was Dave Walker! We also had special guests Julia Morris Paul, the Manchester Poet Laureate, and Kevin and Kevin, from Tick Tick Boom.
We had many announcements this time around and introduced the film concept that Dave is working on. We promoted the next open mic for poetry, which is September 17th and will be having the first competition aspect to it. We announced our sponsors for that event, Jim Russo, builder/contractor, and State Farm Insurance on Main St.
We also announced the open mic coming in October for music. This will be hosted by MusicMakers International Academy and the exact date is to be determined. The guys from Tick Tick Boom announced their upcoming improv comedy class starting October 6th and running through November 10th on Monday evenings from 7-9PM. They too will be hosting an open mic event starting at the end of October and this will be for stand-up comedy and improv.
The best part is the enjoyment of listening to these young adults and how amazing their delivery of the spoken word really is! For some, it’s very natural, almost scary good. We have a lot of talent in our community and I’m glad they have found Y@A to be an outlet source for it.
We are going to begin working on a CD compilation of their poetry as a fund-raiser. If you would like to own a CD of a variety of styles of spoken word and slam poetry, feel free to contact us in advance and we will put you on a list. The cost is yet to be determined, but I wouldn’t think it will be much more than one of our Y@A Poetry Tablets or Y@A Sketch Pads for just $12! (Plug)
Anyway, enjoy the photos and we hope to see YOU in the audience at the next Open Mic! Join our newsletter and blog post mailing list to get all the news!
